Parque Yum-ka

El Yumka´ es un proyecto que inició desde el 15 de diciembre de 1987 al darse protección legal a las 101 hectáreas que conforman la zona, decretándose como área natural protegida y clasificada como Reserva Ecológica en la modalidad de Centro de Interpretación de la Naturaleza.
La ciudad Maya de Piedras Negras esta localizada en la parte norte de la rivera del Río Usumacinta, aproximadamente a 40 Km abajo de la ciudad Maya de Yaxchilan. Piedras Negras fue excavada inicialmente por un proyecto arqueológico dirigido J. Alden Mason y Linton Satterthwaite de University Museun en la Universidad de Pennsylvania, este proyecto duro de 1931 a 1939.
Metzabok (dios hacedor de truenos) es la comunidad Lacandona más pequeña. El lago provee de buena pesca y es el recinto de cuevas sagradas y pinturas rupestres. El pueblo comienza a 4 km. del camino principal a El Tumbo, tiene una atmósfera remota y tranquila. Al mismo tiempo al estar tan remoto, limita el acceso a las oportunidades económicas.
